From SHE KNOWS Added with fun numerology as one of my guests pointed that that is how she chooses the names of her characters. I chose IRVING because of two writers I really like, one has Irving as a First name and another as his last name.
Who through his historical novels made me fall in love with Van Gogh and cook like Michael Angelo’s step mother , embrace the love story between Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd and ponder on Darwin’s mind.
I think like most I discovered him through GARP but I soon got all his other novels and continued to buy others. His most recent don’t speak to me as the earlier works did and to date one of my favorite opening lines has to be from The Water Method Man;

with the patient anxiously biting a plastic boob.. the book just continues to get better as the protagonist tries to grow up and find himself…. brilliant novel .
