The empty nest stage of life is often portrayed as a bad thing, something to be dreaded, a time of loss and emptiness. Certainly, these are all the feelings that Rita (in REINVENTING RITA) felt when she realized her college-age son isn’t coming back home to live with her and also that it was time she came up with a plan for the rest of her life. But the “empty nest” can occur as a result of other events as well, not just because the last child left home. The ending of a relationship, the ending of caregiving, even the ending of a career (whether by choice or circumstance) can all lead to that “now what I’m supposed to do?” question. If you’re experiencing it or if that stage is waiting in the wings for you, what I encourage you to consider is that it can be a time for reinvention, exploration, and expansion of your life and opportunities. That’s what I talk about in this video and that’s what I hope you’ll come to realize for yourself!
