Blood Secrets

A Vampire Legacy Novel #1

by Karen E. Taylor

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Horror

The only vampire left alive?

Deirdre Griffin spent over a century searching for others of her kind. Now after the last ten years in New York City, she’s almost given up hope. Until people she’s fed on start to turn up dead, drained of all their blood. The murder scenes are cleverly staged to implicate Deirdre and her once uncomplicated life soon becomes difficult. Who is doing the killing? And what should she do about detective Mitch Greer, who keeps chipping away at the secrets that protect her life? Feed on him? Kill him? Or the most dangerous choice of all — fall in love?
For the first time in her unnatural life, Deirdre finds herself trapped between love and hate, betrayal and revenge. She must prove her innocence and find the real murderer or pay the ultimate price: her death.

Author’s Note: This book is a reissue of the original novel BLOOD SECRETS. It is not a new novel.

Karen E. Taylor was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area. Despite being a voracious reader her entire life, she’d never intended to be a writer; instead, over the years, she received training in art, sculpture, dance, voice, speech, needlework, sewing and fashion design, as well as lessons in charm and horseback riding. She enjoyed them all. In college, as an English Literature and Communications Arts major, she also discovered her love of theater, but none of that long list of creative endeavors ever really stuck.

While working as an Episcopal Church secretary in January, 1988, Karen began writing her first novel (the one which eventually evolved into Blood Secrets), just to prove to herself that she could. (English Lit majors are like that.) The book was never intended to be the first of an ongoing series, but friends and neighbors who had read the original manuscript demanded a sequel. From that point in time, an author and a series was born.

From that humble beginning, the Vampire Legacy series grew into seven full novels; two novellas and an eighth novel (The Vampires’ Daughter) are in the planning stages. Karen was a two time finalist for the Bram Stoker Award, and has produced numerous short stories, a stand-alone ghost novel (Cellar,) and two cook books. In her spare time, she can be found streaming retro video games on Twitch under the screen name OldVampireLady. After bouncing around the country for the last 40 years, she’s ended up (for now) in Vancouver, WA where she appreciates the gloom of the great Pacific Northwest.

Date Published: 12-19-2023

Publisher: Android Press

On the surface, the city of HelsInc appears to have recovered from the war waged between humans and Ethereals, but beneath the scars, the city seethes. The remains of magic festers, causing mutations in human DNA which could give humans Ethereal power-not that the HelsInc government would ever let that happen. The Legion resists, ripping out their neurochips and protesting the mandatory gene therapy for humans with cryptomine in their DNA.

At only 19 years old, Omyn Talvinen isn’t ready to play parent to her kid brother, but with her mom in prison on trumped up charges and her deadbeat dad AWOL, she’s left with little choice. Forced to risk her freedom to pay the rent, Omyn finds herself at the mercy of a pair of cyborg soldiers when they catch her red-handed stealing nanites from a cyberware Salon. But the synths’ powers don’t work on Omyn, and they discover they all share a common memory that they must get to the root of.

Wanted dead by the government, Omyn and the renegade soldiers turn to a rebel Legion group with dreams of resuscitating dead magic for help. With the clock-ticking for the synths, Zee-Five and Omyn are forced to confront the secrets of their past and a dark conspiracy that’ll shake the blood-soaked foundations of the city.

“Van Rooyen spices up a familiar cyberpunk world with appealing, voicey narration and an added layer of mutagenic magic.”

Elephant Bones

by Michael Gleason

Historical Fiction

Date Published: November 6, 2023

Journey through the timeless tapestry of friendship, family, and love, set against the rich backdrop of Virginia Beach. “Elephant Bones” tells the story of two inseparable friends, Joellen Bower and Emily Harrington, born a day apart in the sunlit month of July. Their lives are a testament to the unbreakable bonds formed under the shade of great willow oaks and the roots of the watery bald cypress trees in a place known as Elephant Bones.

Nestled in the Pungo borough of Princess Anne County, Elephant Bones becomes more than just a playground for the girls. It’s a treasure trove, a sanctuary, and a testament to the history of the region. For Joellen and Emily, it’s a realm of memories, dreams, and promises – from burying tiny treasures in the sand to growing up amidst the stark contrast of wealth and hardship.

Brought to life by the whims of Emily’s father and the history of the Harrington Plantation, Elephant Bones becomes a symbol of the American South and the intricate web of lives, tales, and legacies interwoven through its soil. As the girls mature, the treasures buried beneath the sands of time emerge, reshaping their destinies in ways neither could have imagined.

Dive into this evocative tale and bear witness to a friendship that challenges the tides of change, history, and fate itself.

About the Author

Michael Gleason is an old author with a new start. He and his wife, MaryAnne wrote and worked on several novels together before MaryAnne succumbed to cancer in 1998. The writing team constructed the outlines and partial stories to several books and published two of them under MaryAnne’s name.

Like many, Michael was crushed by the loss of his wife of 20 years. Shortly after her demise, he sold their 5-acre home in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, VA, and returned next door to his hometown of Virginia Beach where he resides today.

For 20 years, Michael stored his and MaryAnne’s writing projects on the top shelf of his home’s garage and only returned to it in 2020. He then finished his and her novel entitled Forbidden Justice which was released on Amazon Kindle in February 2021.

Now remarried, Michael lives happily with his wife Terri and their Boston Terrier, Abbey, who greets visitors vivaciously at the front door. Abbey’s motto is “Every stranger is just a friend she hasn’t met.”

Michael holds a BA and Master’s Degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, where he minored in English literature. While living mainly on the east coast of the U.S. including Maryland, Washington D.C. (where he was born), Brunswick and the Golden Isles in Georgia, Michael has enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time in Europe, including a summer studying at the University of Graz in Austria.

He invites you to read his newest novel entitled, FORBIDDEN JUSTICE and would love to receive an honest assessment of his endeavor. He can be reached at michaelgleason6999@gmail.com.
