Children’s Book Series

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

A collection of laugh-out-loud, stand-alone stories following the adventures of Oscar the Rabbit and his forest friends. Fun to read aloud to children ages 3–5, but great for early readers, too!

From riding bicycles for the first time to making friends with parrots who only speak in squawks, Oscar and the gang get up to mischief and learn a few things along the way.

Perfect for fans of Winnie the Pooh and other animal tales, this series is for kids who love snacks, naps, and silliness.

A Good Adventure

Oscar the Rabbits and Friends Series, Book One

Have you ever woken up from a nap feeling a little peckish for adventure?

When Oscar the Rabbit is rudely awoken by his grumpiest and very best friend, McTavish, he insists they go on a trek.

The two have very different ideas about what makes for a good adventure, but nonetheless, the Scottish rabbit hops behind his friend through the prickly brambles, over the hillock, past the Kingdom of the Queen Bee, all the way to a cornfield across the river.

There, they find unexpected treasure …

Excellent snacks …

And a loud, scary, corn-eating monster … also known as a combine harvester.

Polly Goes Home

Oscar the Rabbits and Friends Series, Book Two

What would you do if a parrot came out of nowhere and started stealing your snacks?

Oscar the Rabbit and his best friend, McTavish, the highland legend, yell at Polly the parrot for stealing their food but quickly realise that the bird is lost, hungry, and needing their help.

The rabbits put past crimes aside and go on an adventure to help Polly, who only speaks in squawks, back to her circus home.

By the end, Polly has pecked her way into both rabbits’ hearts, and even grumpy McTavish is sad to see her go. Oscar, meanwhile, is mainly focused on the cotton candy…

This sweet story about unexpected friendships and circus delights is sure to inspire laughter when read aloud to children ages 3¬¬–5 but also works brilliantly for early school readers.

Perfect for fans of The Interrupting Chicken and The Bear Ate Your Sandwich!

Junkyard

Oscar the Rabbits and Friends Series, Book Three

Sometimes sibling arguments end in laughter, and sometimes they end in a full-scale war over a junkyard heap … this story has both.

In this book from the series Oscar the Rabbit and Friends, we meet Sam and Pam, a set of bickering twins who get left in charge of a fluffle of baby rabbits for a day.

What happens when a group of bunnies are left to their own devices?

They build forts at a junkyard, of course, and start a muddy war over which one is better.

This story of forts and sibling rivalry will bring many laughs when read aloud to children ages 3–5, but also works brilliantly for early school readers. Perfect for fans of The Interrupting Chicken and The Bear Ate Your Sandwich!

Otto Learns to Swim

Oscar the Rabbits and Friends Series, Book Four

This story about a baby otter having an identity crisis is as much for children aged 3–8 as it is for the kid in all of us …

It’s Otto’s birthday, and he decides to become a pirate. The only problem? His mom says that if he wants to sail across the seven seas, he must first learn how to swim.

As Oscar the Rabbit and his bickering bunny friends, Sam and Pam, watch from the riverbank, Otto gets a swimming lesson from his mum.

At first, he sinks. He splutters. He panics. And then he soars!

Soon, Otto is slipping through the river like a true otter. His pirate costume, long-forgotten, Otto learns that all he needs to be on is himself.

Read this story aloud to any small children facing the scary journey of self-discovery or their first swimming lessons. It’s also perfect for early-school readers and any fans of The Gruffalo!

Bicycle

Oscar the Rabbits and Friends Series, Book Five

In this classic Oscar and McTavish tale, Oscar faces the ultimate challenge: learning to ride a bicycle.

This story hurtles down the hill of scary new experiences, great feats of engineering, and the endearing friendship of two rabbits who are as good at teasing each other as they are at giving each other pep talks.

You can expect:

•         A rabbit building a bicycle.

•         Another rabbit riding that bicycle.

•         Both rabbits screaming down a hill and narrowly avoiding the hungry attention of two cats.

Read this story aloud to kids aged 3–5 or give it to early school readers. It’s the perfect story to get kids excited about riding a bicycle for the first time and teach them how best to support friends through scary things. Fans of Winnie the Pooh and The Gruffalo will love this book!

 About the Author

It is hard to tell where a story comes from.

Sometimes I write an idea down, sometimes Adam, the illustrator, draws a picture. Sometimes we both have the same idea at the same time which is when we know we are on the right track.

I then write down too many words, and Adam draws too many pictures.

Adam and I then spend the rest of our creative time arguing over which words and which pictures to use. Eventually, we believe we have chosen the right words and the right pictures for the story.

We then try to turn the words and pictures into a book and realise that, in fact, we must start all over again.

This is known as the artist’s journey.

Dogmatic:

Featuring Dusty Rhodes, the K9 Kid & the Doberman Who Didn’t Like Doughnuts

by Gerry Burke

Genre: Humorous Short Stories

Every morning I take my constitutional along the beach path in the suburb where I live. The early risers are already there with their dogs, every conceivable breed.

All of the canines have a story to tell, so I thought I might like to speak out on their behalf. You will be surprised with the extent and nature of their adventures. In fact, these humorous dog tales are unbelievable.

We already laud our heroes in the form of Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, and Snoopy. I hope these captivating stories will now shine a light on the likes of Baloo, Atticus, and William, the Wet Nose Wonder. In the meantime, give your dog a bone.

Genre: Humorous Short Stories

Stories from Down Under and all over! Humility is not a common virtue among the rich and famous. The protagonists in these narratives come from all parts of the globe, and have experienced the dizzy heights of fame and fortune. These are people who have let vanity overcome wisdom. Tall poppies need to be cut down to size, and plotting their downfall has been my pleasure.

My Book of Revelations:

Stories that Burst the Bubble of Believability

Genre: Humorous Short Stories

History, heroes, horror, and Hollywood! Every story with a sting in the tail. Lady Godiva; The Charge of the Light Brigade; The Borgias; and Tales from the Old West: stories that never happened, but should have. Plus the heroes of today; crime-fighters, patriots, and protagonists of purpose. No wonder the villains never win. Of course, you can’t blame them for trying.

Laugh, smile, snigger, snicker, snort and giggle! The author’s revelations will be hard to believe, and harder to forget. There’s always a bubble to burst.

Gerry Burke received a Jesuit-inspired education at Xavier College in Melbourne, Australia, where he still lives. Before commencing his long career in advertising, the author was employed by an international mining company, which included a three-year stint in New Guinea. He also dabbled in the horse-racing industry, as an owner and breeder, with some success. Being a former accountant and advertising creative, no one expected Gerry to become a published author, but he embraced this initiative to stave off dementia.

He has since penned six novels, seven volumes of short stories, and two offerings of commentary and opinion relating to politics, entertainment, sport and travel. The PEST pseudonym was subjected to a sea change with the introduction of popular discount detective Paddy Pest to booklovers everywhere.

Most people see the garrulous gumshoe from Down Under as a cross between James Bond and Maxwell Smart, and he has been the protagonist in a number of the author’s humour-laden publications. In recent times, there have been diversions into Science Fiction and absolute fiction, all of which have won enthusiastic acclaim.

Mr. Burke’s credentials have been well established, with twelve of his books featuring as a winner or finalist in a variety of international literary competitions. Three volumes have received multiple citations.

Gerry is single and lives with photographs of his best racehorses.

This is not a save-the-world story.

In a fading world on the brink of its end, Sunmine stands besieged by the Jungle of Rot. Tensions simmer between the Woodfolk and the Sun Empire Citizens, trapped together in these shrinking lands.

Amidst this turmoil, a figure stands out: Anpô, the sole outsider to ever come from beyond the Rot and survive. He arrived a mere baby in his mother’s arms, an ominous bloodred tattoo marking his chest — but her death came fast, robbing Anpô and the city of any answers she might have held.

Is Anpô to be the doom of Sunmine, as so many claim? A cursed Rotspawn, touched from birth by the Black Rot that devours the world? Or could the whirls of ink on his chest hide the answers they seek?

Seeking acceptance, Anpô chases the sacred Art of Burning, his true nature becoming entwined with the hopes and hatred of Sunmine’s inhabitants as the forces of this decaying world converge around him. Will he carve himself a place in these lands that are not his, unlocking the secrets shrouding his past? Or will he crumble under the weight of their fear and mistrust, unleashing whichever dark destiny might lurk within him?

A Flicker in the Water

Nonfiction / Memoir / Fishing

Nonfiction / Memoir / Fishing

Publisher: Mindstir Media

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

If you’re yearning for tales about adventure and fun on the open sea, look no further!

The crew welcomes you aboard the Twister, one of the finest fishing vessels in the Gulf of Mexico, as the search is on for the big ones that legends are made of. Blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, swordfish, and more are waiting to be caught, just so long as Bob and his friends have the strength to reel them in.

Told in a fun, engaging style, this book combines elements of drama, heroism, and skill with humor and some educational points about the sea and its inhabitants, with plenty of surprises along the way.

The stories will make you feel like you are out on the water yourself getting ready to land that next great catch you’ll be talking about for the rest of your life. Experienced seamen and land lubbers alike will enjoy this peek into one of the good parts of life with all of its promises and perils.

The use of the word Tales in the subtitle is a play on the word “Tails” that matches the Goliath Grouper on the front cover. When you look into the mouth of the Grouper, we hope you’ll want to look inside this exciting collection of tales.

About the Author

A FLICKER IN THE WATER (Inside The Tales) is my second published work. The first one being a book of poems called “Eagle Claws For Freedom’s Cause”. The latter being so well received it provided the impetus to write this second book. I have always enjoyed the outdoors especially deep sea fishing and wanted this book to focus on those stories. I was born in New York City and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania where the most popular outdoor sport was Whitetail Deer Hunting. Maybe I will write about those stories in a future book. I now live in Florida, where I still enjoy sports of all kinds. Hopefully one day soon I will get to see the Tampa Bay Rays win the World Series. But for now, I will keep myself busy pursuing then writing about landing the “Big Ones”.

Everything is Temporary

a Christmas Horror Novel

by JON COHN

Christmas Horror

Date Published: November 2, 2023

Publisher: Deadbolt Books

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

How well do we really know the people sleeping next to us in bed at night?

After a tragedy strikes the Barnes family, Sarah’s husband Tom begins acting strangely. It starts with wild mood-shifts and accusations at their thirteen-year-old daughter, but quickly escalates to the attempted murder of an off-season mall Santa. From what Sarah can tell, Tom’s only motive seems to lie behind a mysterious hatred for Christmas that burns year-round. What’s worse, Tom’s only defense lies in a long-forgotten book he wrote detailing a traumatic event in his childhood that seems too far-fetched to be believed. His entire case revolves around the notion of talking Christmas trees, a living army of toys, and worst of all, a monster masquerading as Mrs. Claus.

Now, Sarah must go on a journey into her husband’s past to learn if Tom is in the midst of a psychotic breakdown, if he’s a danger to his family, or if he really is being hunted by the malevolent holiday horror that destroyed his childhood.
