“Fifty years ago the Shadows betrayed me, left me to wither slowly into nothing, chained deep inside a hidden mountain cave. Meanwhile they took control of my kingdom, killing or enslaving any who would dare oppose them. But I am a patient woman … and immortal. The Shadows should enjoy their reign of terror while they can, in the meantime, I will continue to stare at these dark walls plotting my revenge. After all, it is only a matter of time, and I have all the time in the world.” K.

In the small town of Vicaris, Mikel and his daughter Citera live in and run a small clinic. It’s often chaotic and overwhelming, but neither of them would have it any other way. But their desire to help those in need, regardless of race or status, has often made them a target of the harassment by the Shadows forces.

Even so, when their Full-blood friend Rigar shows up at the back door of the clinic with the emaciated body of a young woman, Mikel doesn’t hesitate to bring her inside. And when they find out only minutes later the Shadows forces, including their henchman the Enforcer, are heading their direction, Mikel bravely puts his life on the line to protect the mysterious stranger.

Unbeknownst to Mikel, this young woman is the immortal queen the Shadows have been searching for decades to find. And it doesn’t take long before Mikel and his friends find themselves thrust into the midst of an ancient feud that will eventually decide the fate of Vanteria once and for all.

 INTERVIEW

  • What is your book about?

The Devil’s Pawn is fifteen-year old Simon Porte’s story. After his family is killed in a car crash, Simon’s Uncle Raymond, whom he’s never met, brings him to live with him and his wife in upstate New York. Simon’s leery of his strange uncle, and for good reason. Raymond knows he’s dying and is using his diabolical powers to take over Simon’s healthy young body. Simon learns to develop his own powers. With the help of his dotty great-aunt, his newly-discovered sister, and a pair of odd-ball twins, he wages war against his evil uncle and his cronies.

  • Why do you incorporate the supernatural in some of your novels?

I think supernatural elements enhance the excitement, raise the stakes, and help drive the plot. Simon’s always been aware of his extraordinary ability to read most people’s minds, but with his great-aunt to guide him, he must develop his inherited powers to defeat his uncle and save his own life.

  • Describe your writing in three words.

Entertaining, compelling, smooth.

  • Share with us your biggest hurdles in the writing process?

Believe it or not, it’s sitting down to write each day. I secretly wonder each time if I’m up to the job. Once I get started I’m fine. After writing for so many years, you’d think I’d remember this.

  • What project(s) are you working on now?

Right now I’m writing a sequel to my adult mystery, Giving Up the Ghost. I’m also editing a romantic suspense to send to one of my publishers.

  • Is there anything else you would like to say to your readers?

A few months from now, StarWalk Kids is bringing out my second Rufus novel for young readers: Rufus and the Witch’s Slave. Rufus is spending a summer month in the south of France with his friend Billy’s family. The boys encounter an old witch who is taking advantage of a young girl’s magical powers and forcing her to steal from surrounding villas.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A former Spanish teacher, Marilyn Levinson writes novels for kids and mysteries for adults. Some of her books for young readers are AND DON’T BRING JEREMY, which was a nominee for six state awards, NO BOYS ALLOWED, and RUFUS AND MAGIC RUN AMOK, an International Reading Association-Children’s Book Council “Children’s Choice.” RUFUS AND THE WITCH’S SLAVE, will be out in the fall. Marilyn like traveling, foreign films, reading, knitting, Sudoku, dining out, and talking to her granddaughter Olivia on Face Time. She lives on Long Island.

EXCERPT

Pol stopped swinging and fixed her gaze on me. It was too dark to see her amazing blue-green eyes, but I felt them studying me.
“Did you hear?” she asked. “A girl died yesterday, over in Chatham Falls.”
Death. My stomach started swirling.
“She was going to visit her cousin two blocks away, only she never got there. It was dusk—like it is right now. They found her the next day, lying on the side of a road outside of town.”
Andy said, “The weird thing is, there were no wounds or bruises on her body. No sign of strangulation, stabbing, head wound, or gunshot. Just like the other one.”
Pol yanked her brother’s arm. “We don’t need the details.”
“You started it. I’m just filling in the facts.”
“Poor kid,” Pol said. “Melissa went to Shady Brook, but I didn’t know her.”
A band squeezed my chest so tightly I could barely breathe. “Not Melissa Gordon.”
“Uh-huh,” Andy said. “They think she was murdered.”
“Murdered? I can’t believe it. Last week I was teaching her to swim.”
“I’m so sorry, Simon,” Pol said.
“She was nine years old,” I mumbled. “The same age Lucy would be…”
The twins stared at me.
“Who’s Lucy?” Pol asked.
I shook my head. “Gotta go.”
I took off like a lightning bolt, desperate to get away. I ran down a street I’d never been on before, rubbing away tears brought on by thoughts of my dead sister. I was angry at myself for breaking the one rule I’d set for myself since losing my family: keep your cool, no matter what. But Melissa Gordon! Jeez! She was a cute little thing—two skinny pigtails and a good belly laugh. What monster would kill a kid like that? A few days ago I’d finally got her to put her head in the water. How proud she had been!

GILLIAN JOY

Not only will we all, AALG ( www.authorsallies.com ) and Gillian Joy be signing the contract within minutes of each other on Saturday, 3rd October 2015 but we will also be celebrating the birthday of Gillian joy.
So let me introduce you to the author;

Gillian Joy is a 46 year old mother of two who designs houses for a living and lives to write. She grew up in the Western Suburbs of Sydney Australia, the eldest of five children. She had two younger brothers and two, much younger sisters. One of her brothers died when she was only nineteen. No Chance to say Goodbye, release to be announced, is his story.
She once had a boss who remarked she had a hard life, but she states she never actually saw it that way. “Life is what it is,” she says. She had food, clothes, a roof over her head and a family who loved her. “What’s hard about that?”
These days she lives on the Mornington Peninsula, south east of Melbourne Australia where she spends as much of limted spare time as she can either with her nose in a book or writing on her phone or tablet.
“I love it here, there aren’t too many places in the world that with less than a ten minute drive you can watch the sun rise over the water, or you can watch the sun set over the water, and there’s just something extra special about watching the sunset over the beach, something dreamy and romantic.” Gillian lives with her husband, two beautiful but wilful children, a few fish and a very spoilt English Staffie named Cleo.
Gillian Joy is a proud Australian, who loves bbq’s, thongs (worn on the feet) and vegimite sandwiches and calls her friends, “Mate”.

M.K. Theodoratus – Vengeance – PROMO Blitz

Historical Fantasy
After four centuries of political infighting with Linden, the ruler of the Marches, all Mariah wants is a little peace and quiet. Then, privateers attack her daughter’s family, leaving Norerah at death’s door. Mariah’s anger boils over. Ashton, her ring-mate and Linden’s half-brother, and Mariah seek vengeance, ignoring Linden’s decrees, only to discover a strange magic that threatens everything the three hold dear.

EXCERPT

Linden, the Lord High Commander of the Marches, strode across the main healing hall of the southern district, where Mariah was helping that day. One of the healers had had a family emergency, and the lead healer had called Mariah to replace him. She now stood by the door leading into the private consulting rooms, feeling the heat of his anger. The veins bulged in Linden’s neck as his face reddened when he saw her standing by the interior door. Mariah unhooked her thumbs from her honor belt and crossed her arms over her chest, ready to withstand his tirade, though she did not know what had angered him this time.

Halting in the middle of the room, Linden’s growled words boomed through the waiting room. “Stop interfering in my business, woman.”

The ruler’s head lowered as if he were a bull readying for the change. The people, waiting to consult with the healers, shrank away though both combatants were unarmed except for their boot knives used mostly for eating.

Mariah’s dark eyes blazed. Though she no longer wore her sword and seldom visited his ranger camp, Mariah still dressed in warrior’s breeches, unlaced shirt, and knee-high boots, much as he did. Only her honor belt differed, displaying healer’s insignia on its interlocking buckles, though the belt itself was embossed with as many death stars as his.

Biting her lip, Mariah longed for Linden’s younger version. The angry, stocky man had swallowed the slim, hesitant youth, who had once shared her bed with his half-brother long years ago. Linden pushed forward until his large nose almost touched hers, bringing his sharp elven teeth close enough to bite. The heat of his anger brushed against her tan skin. Mariah tensed, ready to defend all in the room.

The air in the public area crackled as elven shields snapped into place.

The common Half-Elven patients and their families cowered against the walls. The audience’s eyes rolled like nervous horses, fearing what powers the combatants might unleash. Mariah’s skin itched from the static raised as the watchers pulled what energy they could from the air to strengthen their protective shields. But she focused her attention on the ruler who had once been one of her closest friends.

Long time fantasy reader and non-fiction writer, M. K. Theodoratus now writes about elves, mages, demons, and other preternatural creatures. While she mostly writes to amuse herself, she’s willing to share her stories.

10 Ways To Attract Positive Energy

nrhatch's avatarSpirit Lights The Way

We are magnets.  When we emit positive energy (thoughts, feelings, and vibrations), we attract more positives to us.

Bueno!  Life, she is good!

Mangia!  Mangia!

When we dwell on the negatives, we attract negatives ~ sapping our energy and strength in the process.

If you’re tired of living under a perpetual rain cloud, keep reading!

Yes, Eeyore, you too!

If we want to attract heath, wellness, and vitality to ourselves, we must stop circulating (and re-circulating) toxic, negative thoughts and feelings.

Here are 10 Ways to Attract Positive Energy into your life, while boosting your immune system, curing dis-ease, and counter-balancing daily stress:

1.  Love and accept yourself as you are right now.  Start a list to remind yourself of all your wonderful qualities.  Add to it every day.

E.g.,  I am the most positive person I know.

2.  Free yourself from past resentments and disappointments about who you were yesterday.  Stop engaging in self-blame and guilt for past acts and omissions.  Today is the first day of the rest of your life.  Revel in it.
