Peculiar People and Pets Who Love Them

Peculiar People and Pets Who Love Them

Humor

Date Published: May 23, 2024

Publisher: BookBaby

“Peculiar People and the Pets Who Love Them”…lovingly written and illustrated by Justin Moroyan, is a darkly-whimsical and addictively-humorous picture book that tells the stories of fantastically weird people and their equally strange and adoring pets

These stories revolve around characters who are gloriously abnormal. They embrace that attribute, and don’t shy away from being their unique, spectacular selves. Like Madam Rosette and her poodle, Josette, who only enjoy “bad” smells…or Samurai Megasaki, who is addicted to water but also allergic to it. Each spread welcomes you into wondrous, stunningly detailed, vibrant illustrations, and stories that are guaranteed to capture your imagination and tickle your grey matter. Each time you explore it, you’ll discover new secrets and symbolism that delve you deeper into captivating worlds you will inexorably fall in love with.

About the Author

I’m an illustrator and writer, and I’ve always loved expressing myself on paper…the ability to work within a space where I can make anything happen has always been a form of therapy for me. It’s one of the reasons I love the Fantasy and Sci-Fi genres so much.

“That’s the wonderful thing about crayons. They can take you to more places than a starship.” (Guinan, Star Trek: The Next Generation)

I share an affinity for dark humor with some of my atypical real-life superheroes, like Tim Burton, Charles Addams, Edward Gorey, and Wes Anderson. Of course, I can’t leave out the wondrously enchanting worlds created by Dr. Seuss and Disney, which fertilized my drive to invent worlds of my very own growing up, and still, to this day.

I tend to gravitate towards humorous stories about social ineptitude, mad science, the supernatural, and wonderfully addictive, perfectly imperfect, B-movie-like humor and exaggerated characters. I love diving down the rabbit hole of my mind and exploring strange new worlds.

“All we can do, Scully, is pull the thread and see what it unravels.” (Fox Mulder, The X-Files) –This text refers to the paperback edition.

Shadow Cast

The Hawthorne University Witch Series Book 6

by A.L. Hawke

Genre: Paranormal Fantasy Romance

You can’t cast shadows in darkness.

You can’t cast shadows in darkness.

It’s the start of my second year of graduate school at Hawthorne University. (I wasn’t canned, okay?) Bryce and our dean organize an orientation meeting to recruit witches. Yep, it’s time to teach Alondra’s “honors” program.

Everything goes fine until that slithery snake-witch, Adder, barges into my home. She claims I’m cursing her master, Enora, haunting the dreams of her Abaddon coven. I’m not. Honest. But sometimes Alondra pops up inside me, acting outside of my control.

We hold a séance to ask the ghost possessing me to go away. I don’t see ghosts or spirits. I see evil. But you know, it’s funny, no one else seems to.

My sole mastery of necromancy might just be enough to protect Bryce and my unborn baby—or save my greatest adversary.

Cadence Hawthorne returns in this sixth book in the Hawthorne University Witch series.

Content Warning: Shadow Cast contains profanity, sex, adult situations and, of course, witchcraft.

The Hawthorne University Witch Series Book 5

When evil lands on my doorstep.

While Bryce and I are finally enjoying some quiet time together, a dark, shadowy figure crashes into our door. And it isn’t a small black bird this time. A devil is hurt, asking for my help.

Well, I just have too many problems of my own now. People don’t want to talk to me. And Bryce isn’t touching me. So what’s a witch to do? Haul up my legs, sit on a pentagram in a circle of candles, and murmur to myself.

My best friend Maddie thinks I’m under a curse. But, honestly, I feel like I have to do whatever it takes to save this town, even if it means teaming up with my archenemy witch Enora.

Evil empowers me. But this dark spellcasting also intends to drive a stake right through my heart and the heart of Hawthorne University. See, not only am I feeling alone, I’m getting expelled.

Cadence Hawthorne returns in this fifth book in the Hawthorne University Witch series.

Content Warning: Ravens contains profanity, sex, adult situations and, of course, witchcraft.

Witch Mirror

The Hawthorne University Witch Series Book 4

Reflections of a wicked witch.

Bryce and I are trying to revive Alondra’s old metaphysical history class. We’re in college again, this time teaching. But It’s stressful under our former teacher’s shadow. Not only that, there’s a new demon-witch messing with my love life. So I’m going through that again. Well, at least this time I have Alondra’s magic to protect me.

Actually, not only do I have her magic, her spirit is inside me, possessing me. But don’t worry, Alondra’s ghost is a positive force here to help Hawthorne. I mean…are you good, Alondra?

A witch council is gathering at my house to reflect on ways to save us. They’re convinced Alondra is evil, but Alondra and I are unsure they know what they’re doing. Well, if I can’t hold things together—inside and outside of myself—I fear my plans of finishing graduate school at Hawthorne U. and starting a family are going to shatter.

Cadence Hawthorne returns in this fourth book in the Hawthorne University Witch series. Some spoilers cannot be avoided, but Witch Mirror is a stand-alone novel that can be enjoyed without reading the preceding books.

Content Warning: Witch Mirror contains profanity, sex, adult situations and, of course, witchcraft.

Publisher: EverImagine Books (an imprint of Harbor Lane Books, LLC.)

Maddie’s life is a mess. Along with the usual hassles of eighth grade, her best friend Rachel has gone boy-crazy and seems drawn to a new crowd. To make matters worse, everyone’s teasing Maddie for impulsively breaking into her neighbor’s home when her imagination went wild thinking that she saw a mythical creature called a Yeti inside.

Then, the new neighbors pull into their driveway and Maddie thinks she sees a human hand push out the taillight of their car. Other strange events follow. Are they kidnappers? Spies? Maddie convinces Rachel to help investigate, hoping that working together will bolster their friendship. But that looks unlikely after both of them crush on the new neighbors’ son Alex.

Maddie is in a no-win situation. If she proves the new neighbors are spies, Alex will hate her. If she finds out they’re not spies and dates Alex, Rachel will hate her. But Maddie can’t resist solving a mystery and soon finds herself on a collision course with her best friend, her first crush, and the dangerous world of espionage. Her entire world – and her life – is at risk.

About the Author

Since discovering Nancy Drew books as a child, Diana has been a lifelong mystery fan. She wrote this story to share her passion with tweens and early teens, to glorify girl power, and to pay tribute to female spies from the American Revolution. Recent FBI counterintelligence investigation of Russian spies, who portrayed themselves as typical Americans, known as Operation Ghost Stories and an American scientist who was arrested for providing intelligence to China inspired her to write this story. As a former litigator, she also drew from her experiences defending FBI prosecutorial targets and witnesses and handling a case involving someone who had led a double life. She also did research on Agent 355 of the Culper Spy Ring. She grew up near Cranbury, New Jersey, where her sister now lives. The Neighbors’ Secret is a finalist in the Connecticut Tessa Awards.

Hatfield 1677

by Laura C. Rader

Historical Fiction

Date Published: May 21, 2024

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

Colonist Benjamin Waite, a devoted husband, father, and skilled military scout in King Philip’s War, reluctantly obeys orders to guide an attack against a camp of Algonquian Natives.

After the catastrophic event, Benjamin is burdened with guilt and longs for peace. But the Algonquians, led by the revered sachem Ashpelon, retaliate with vengeance upon Ben’s Massachusetts town of Hatfield, capturing over a dozen colonists, including his pregnant wife Martha and their three young daughters.

Hatfield 1677 is a tale of three interwoven yet diverging journeys of strength and survival: Benjamin, driven by love and remorse to rescue his family; Martha, forced into captivity and desperately striving to protect her children; and Ashpelon, willing to risk everything to ensure the safety and freedom of his people.

Based on the lives of the author’s ancestors, this riveting and unforgettable novel gives voice to three vastly different experiences in North America during a time before the creation of the Declaration of Independence. Then, the land was but a wilderness and a battleground; equality was not yet perceived as self-evident; and liberty and happiness were nothing more than dangerous pursuits.

It’s time now for us to embrace a far more expansive and effective version of the original.

GoldenRuleism is the name of our overarching ethic – an ethic universal in its scope. Discover what it can mean for your life.

This booklet stimulates you to act – to do what YOU can – from where you are.

GoldenRuleism’s foundation is its two principal principles – two elegantly simple sentences.

It’s Humanity’s “Apply It Now” ethic. We the people of the world need to be GoldenRuleistic. We’ll make our lives decidedly better – with and for each other.

***NOTE: Our Spanish edition is also available!

About the Author

Craig Cline advocates for us humans—and for all the other sentient beings on our one-and-only Mother Earth.

Craig has written many articles for publication, on a variety of topics. He wrote this booklet, with the assistance of his Editor-In-Residence wife Cherie: Golden Ruleism: Living A Golden Ruleism-Guided Life.

The Clines support a variety of nonprofit organizations, especially those in their local community. They feel we should all do whatever we can to ensure “our” nonprofits succeed in their heart-driven missions.

Craig’s premise is that by our universally embracing the two principal principles of Golden Ruleism—two simple-to-say and easy-to-remember sentences—we’ll collectively “Move the Needle of Humanity Towards Humane-ity.”

He asks that you please do what you can to move that needle.
