New Orleans is one of my favorite cities. From my first visit I was intrigued by the magic, mystery, and legends that surround you. All you have to do is walk the streets of the French Quarter to feel the history of the city. People claim witches and ghosts also walk the streets and I have to admit sometimes I believe it might be true. It was while touring St. Louis #1, the oldest above ground cemetery in the city, standing in front of the tomb of the Voodoo queen Marie Laveau, that the idea for His Magic Touch began. I swear she zapped me because I started feeling faint and had to leave the tour. Now, my husband will tell you it was because of the heat, but I felt fine until we approached her tomb. I think my version is more interesting and  I began my research into local witch craft and hauntings.

Debby Grahl lives on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, with her husband,
David. Besides writing, she enjoys biking, walking on the beach and a
glass of wine at sunset. Her favorite places to visit are New
Orleans, New York City, Captiva Island in Florida, the Cotswolds of
England, and her home state of Michigan. She is a history buff who
also enjoys reading murder mysteries, time travel, and, of course,
romance. Visually impaired since childhood by Retinitis Pigmentosa
(RP), she uses screen-reading software to research and write her books.
Her first published book, The Silver Crescent, won
the Paranormal Romance Guild Reviewers’ Choice award. Her
second book, Rue Toulouse, a contemporary romance set in New
Orleans, was a finalist in the National Excellence in Romantic
Fiction Award and was selected as a May, 2016, ‘local read’ by

Debby was featured in the January, 2016, Hilton Head Monthly article
‘Intriguing People of the Lowcountry’. She is a member of Romance
Writers of America, Florida Romance Writers, and First Coast Romance Writers.

  • Welcome to Defining Ways, Blu. What is your full name?

Thanks for having me. Blu Irving Carraway.

  • Where were you born?

Charleston County, South Carolina.

  • What is your profession?

P.I. mostly although I seem to be working for my daughter these days. She runs the business. My partner, Mick Crome, and I are the boots on the ground.

  • Favorite client? Least favorite client?

My favorite client is the one currently paying the bills. My least favorite client is the one that doesn’t.

  • What is your passion?

I love my home, a small island just south of Charleston. It’s full of mosquitoes and no-see-ums but once you get past the parasites, there’s no other place on earth quite like it.  If I were really being honest, I’d say my passion is the adrenaline rush of being in the middle of something about to go south, no pun intended.

  • Is Kuala Lumpur one of your favorite cities?

Hell no. And I don’t think I can ever go back there anyway.

  • Are you more city or country?

I’m beachfront and that won’t ever change.

  • Favorite drink?  Do you drink on the job?

Iced coffee when I can get it. I drink it quite often on the job.

  • Anything else our visitors need to know about you or the book CAUGHT UP IN IT?

I hate people who think because they have money and influence they can get away with things. It shows in the book how much I hate them. Conversely, I fight for what I think is right. Sometimes I almost get killed in the process.  Thankfully, I have some good friends who keep me out of trouble, although I tend to give the impression I’m the one saving them.  Come visit my world in CAUGHT UP IN IT and see how we all pay for our sins.

David Burnsworth became fascinated with the Deep South at a young age. After a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and fifteen years in the corporate world, he made the decision to write a novel. He is the author of both the Brack Pelton and the Blu Carraway Mystery Series. Having lived in Charleston on Sullivan’s Island for five years, the setting was a foregone conclusion.
