Why does Jessica Hastings come home late several times a week?
Her husband asks Private Investigator Sam Dyke this simple question. Dyke doesn’t want the case: he doesn’t do divorce work … but Brian Hastings doesn’t want a divorce, he wants an explanation.
When Sam finds out what Jessica is doing, it opens up more questions. And when Brian Hastings goes missing, they’re questions he feels compelled to answer.
At the centre of the mystery is a man who most people in Manchester don’t know–Larry Stone. But those who do know him, know that far from being the simple florist he seems to be, he’s actually the biggest crook in town. He’s powerful, he’s dangerous, and he’s currently working a deal with a Dutchman who’s even worse.
And Sam is now caught in Stone’s sights as he works to find Brian Hastings, to solve a couple of murders, and to prevent Stone corrupting even more members of his own family than he already has.
Before the biggest deal of Stone’s crooked career goes down.

Romania—a hidden gem of Eastern Europe—is better known for its brush with communism than its cuisine. But, just because it’s hidden, doesn’t mean it’s forgotten. Filled with lush ingredients, many picked fresh from the field, you’ll find a traditional Romanian plate loaded to the brim with vegetables and lean proteins, never lacking in flavor.
And nestled in those hidden hills and winding landscapes, lies a culture as rich and decadent as their meals. Journey through the countryside with over 80 recipes as unique as the people who have been perfecting them for centuries, all the while learning about the folklore and traditions that have steeped Romania in mystical mystery for so long.
She lives in Beer + Cheese Land, Wisconsin with her real-life superhero husband, loud-mouth + drool-bucket coonhound, and I’m-allergic-to-myself cat, but frequently spends a fortnight (or two) in the fictional world of Skyrim (add her on the PlayStation Network: supersmaaashley).
She considers herself a designer by nature, a writer at heart, and always wanted to make video game walk-throughs as a child. (Hint: she still does.) Her favorite color is chartreuse, and she has an undeniable attraction to moss (not of the Kate variety).
I received an e-copy as an exchange for an honest review. The book is a culinary and cultural experience in one. I have never visited Romania, but this book takes the reader through Romania, through its food, folklore, history, and geography. It feels like an escape to another place and sometimes another time. Filled with over 80 recipes, well presented with lovely images and illustrations. Varied ingredients, uses many fresh ones that merit visits to greengrocer markets. It promises Romanian plates loaded to the brim with vegetables and lean proteins, never lacking in flavor. A fabulous gift for people who collect cookbooks. It made me want to visit Romania. I love the title! So clever from Dill to Dracula.
