There’s flowing water and beautiful people and beautiful clothes and an incongruous convent where children wear smart uniforms and are tutored by nuns. Lovely, until they discover that a subterranean sex trade funds the compound and the man who leads it is mad. Can Mother, Sharps, and the others take down Alpha Plus and his army? Or will they too become pawns in his bid for world domination?

About the Author

James Hai is a new author who has written a number of fictional suspense and scifi thrillers. With hopes of bringing them to life as he debut.

James has dabbled in the arts of various kind as a youngling; from drawing, painting, writing lyrics and songs during grade school years to singing horribly and loudly to the tunes of many oldies – like Whitney Houston, Elvis, Madonna, Roxette, Bette Midler, Cindy Lauper, Tina Turner and even earlier songs like Patsy Cline and Ben E. King, only because the songs had meaning in the words. And thus began James’ passion with words . . . writing.

Before he could even write his first piece of lyrics or stories, he had made up short stories and orally told them to family and friends through out the years. It was in telling these stories that he saw how alluring and intrigued people got when they listened to or heard a GOOD story. The better the story was the more intent they focused and the longer they gave attention to it.

Through the years working in the corporate world in recruiting, sales and business in general, he had learned how important story telling was. Key to his success in all those fields was his ability to tell a good story (of the company, of the people, of the product, and of the services he worked for) that allured and intrigued the customers enough to give it an ear to learn more.

That gift has always been a part of him, from his earlier years as his family fled as refugees with the eventual opportunity to live an American Dream. He continues to hone this skill, from his secondary school years living away from home and being raised by the SVDs (Society of Divine Word), a religious and dedicated organization of men & women who trained people to be religious and spiritual in their own unique way, until his graduation earning a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and finally moving back to secular life.

After orally telling short random stories for so long, family and friends suggested he share those stories to a broader group, the general public. He now concentrate on sharing newly created stories with the inspiration of giving inspiration, shedding light in times of darkness, and giving hope when it seems hopeless. As he would state: Life can be Good, if you know how to appreciate it!

 Flames of Winter

by Bree Wolf

Flames of Winter Series, Book One

Historical Romance, Regency Romance, Historical Fiction

Date Published: January 12, 2022

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

In this Regency romance by USA Today bestselling author BREE WOLF, a young miss succeeds in escaping an unwanted marriage, only to end up finding love.

A kidnapped young miss.

A protective Scotsman.

And a cabin in the woods in the deep of winter.

England 1804: SARAH MORTENSEN, daughter to BARON HARTMORE, is desperate…desperate to escape yet another horrible match her parents arranged for her. Once, she saw it as her duty to save her family from ruin, to sacrifice herself in order to repay her father’s gambling debts.

But enough is enough.

Determined to escape her latest fiancé, Sarah places her trust in the Dowager Countess of Whickerton, known far and wide as Grandma Edie. After all, no one is as shrewd as the dowager countess…or as daring. Her plan is outrageous. Her intentions, however, are pure.

And so, Sarah agrees…to a feigned kidnapping…hoping to win her freedom.

KEIR MACKINNEAR, second son to the chief of CLAN MACKINNEAR in the Scottish Highlands, questions his own sanity when he finds himself kidnapping a shy, wide-eyed English lass from her London home in the middle of the night. He ought never have gone along with the Dowager Countess of Whickerton’s ludicrous plan! Yet here they are, hiding out in a cabin in the woods in the middle of winter!

Only the two of them!

Not counting two horses, an old goat, a handful of chickens and a haughty feline by the name of Loki.

What could go wrong?

After all, the dowager countess is not known to be wrong. Ever.

Yet what slips Keir’s mind is that Grandma Edie loves nothing more than to play matchmaker. And while she is certainly determined to save Sarah from her vile fiancé, she might just have an ulterior motive.

Why not hit two birds with one stone?

Some stories can be told in one book. Others cannot. This is one of those stories.

Once Upon a Kiss

by Shilpa Suraj

“Kissing you means I’m beyond redemption.”

Orphaned at a young age, scraping together a life below the poverty line, Karam Bakshi has only ever wanted one thing. Success. With unrelenting focus and backbreaking effort, he has carved out the life of his dreams. And then he saw her and forgot that he had goals or a plan or even something as basic as ideas.

Shikha Sachdev, only daughter to a mining magnate and jilted fiancée to one of the most powerful men in the country, has never wanted for anything. And then she met him and realised that until that moment, she never had wanted anything. Not like she wanted him.

When passion collides with reason, when the heart goes to war with the brain, and old scabs rip open under the onslaught of new wounds, there is nowhere to hide, nowhere to run, and only one option left; gamble with everything you’ve got. Win and reach for a lifetime of happiness or lose and you lose everything, including your very sense of self.

Can Karam and Shikha ever find common ground? Or are they destined to orbit each other like the most tortured star-crossed lovers of eternity?

Read an Excerpt from Once Upon a Kiss

Karam stiffened at the sweet voice and the even sweeter sentiment it oozed. He didn’t do sweet. He turned slowly to face her.

“Slumming again, Princess?”

Anger flared on those perfect features, but she composed herself a second later. You had to admire that level of control. She would have made the perfect politician’s wife. Kanak, on the other hand…a reluctant laugh huffed out of him.

“Why are you like this?” she asked now, her tone bored but her eyes alive with something he recognised all too well. The same emotion thrummed through his veins, heating his blood and kickstarting his heart.

He took a sip from his flask, a deliberately long one. He wanted to smack his lips, the gesture as pointed as it was obscene, when she stepped closer to him.

“You didn’t reply to my last message.” The soft words only stoked the heat.

“Didn’t have time.” The words were a low snarl in response.

She cocked her head, those pretty hazel eyes seeing right through him and to the lonely, angry, always hungry boy he’d been and apparently, never outgrown. The boy who’d longed for a better life, for a full stomach, for a night without being whipped or beaten, for an affectionate touch, for someone, anyone really, to love him.

A boy who’d thought he’d deserved better. A boy who’d wanted something pretty, something special in his life. A boy who’d dirtied and ruined everything he’d held in his hands. Including this woman.

He’d kissed her. And she’d lost everything. Her rich, powerful fiancé had ended their engagement, her family had shunned her, humiliated by her actions and her business had lost investors. Apparently, they’d been backing the woman who was going to marry Aakash Thakkar. Not someone who’d kiss an alley rat like him.

“Go inside,” he told her softly.

But when did she ever listen to him?

“No,” she said, equally softly, stepping forward and into his space.

“You really need to find a rich, pretty boy to practice this shit with, Princess.” The words were hoarse, his chest starting to heave.

“But I don’t want to,” she murmured, her fingers pushing the hair back from his forehead, running through the strands. She gripped the back of his neck, the contact feeling like a brand on his skin.

“What do you want?” His hand fisted around his flask even as the other one gripped her hip, the skin soft and satiny under his callused palm. Her saree pallu whispered down one shoulder and slipped to the ground but neither of them noticed, their eyes only on each other.

“What. Do. You. Want?” The words were dragged from him.

“You, Karam. Always you.”

This time when she kissed him, he didn’t just go up in flames. He swore he’d burn the world down for a chance to do this again. And again.

Whether you carry an encyclopedic knowledge of the Iliad and the Odyssey or think your Ajaxes belong in the cabinet under the sink, you’ll enjoy the sonic feast within these pages, which reexamine the Greek myths with purposeful typos, a nod to modern sensibilities and literate, joyful wordplay.

About the Author

A. Gee has been playing with words since he was little, and has finally been talked into sharing.

As an avid reader of both English and Russian classical literature and poetry — English is his third language — he’s been fascinated by the challenge of creating metrical, rhyming English poetry that wants to escape out of your mouth and be read out loud — think Dr. Seuss meets Chaucer. Well, at least half way.

After publishing a science fiction short in his early twenties, he’d spent the bulk of his career writing code for a living, having created more than 40 video games in the span of a twenty year career in the field, and he continues to enjoy it. But writing poetry has become an increasingly important part of his life.

A happily married grandfather of four with more on the way, he and his wife split their time between New Jersey and Texas.

Time Agent Jon Howe:

Born in the 25th century and trained as an agent dedicated to keeping his timeline stable. He is a lone wolf with no emotional ties, that is until he meets Shoshanna. His orders and main goals are to find a way to stop an invasion from another universe and obtain the love of this strange, somewhat angry exotic woman, who for the first time in his life has stirred extreme emotion in him.

He is recruited by the (WQPB) World Quantum Physics and Time Bureau to travel back to 1939 Morocco because scientists from his time have noticed strange events at that time and location. Events that point to an imminent invasion.

He travels to 1939 Casablanca to find a device (The Leon Key: Shaped like a crystal Pyramid the size of a toaster with a 5″ gold ring embedded in the center), that will allow him to cross to a parallel universe. He meets a mysterious dark-haired beauty, Shoshanna, (She’s very fit with straight long black hair and has extraordinary speed and fighting talent. She’s headstrong.) Over the course of the story, they go from not liking each other to falling in love.

He finds out she’s from the other universe and together they get the Leon Key away from the Nazis and cross over to the planet Moorgliss to fight the evil dictator Moogur, who is preparing to invade our universe and take over Earth. The people look just like humans but have extra strength and powers.

Will he get the device from the Nazis, or be defeated by the obsessed dictator who wants Shoshanna for himself?

As the story progresses, we learn that Jon is now stuck in the past, as time travel is currently a one-way ticket. Scientists in Jon’s own time work to enable travel into the future. Will he get home?

For years, Raymond du Sable has chased rumors of a woman shrouded in legend, a woman of unearthly, hypnotic beauty. Finally, on Crusade, he finds her. She is Cytharea, daughter of Aphrodite, irresistible to mortal man — and Raymond’s key to grasping the throne of France. To transport her there safely, Raymond hires a Templar Knight, Gerard d’Amiers.

Sworn to chastity, Gerard has a deep mistrust of women, born of the infidelity of his boyhood love. Yet Cytharea stirs him in a way no woman ever has. And Cytharea herself is battling a deadly imperative — she must feed from the sexual energy of a man soon, or die.

Together, Gerard and Cytharea discover a passion so overpowering it shakes the very foundations of Gerard’s faith. Upon reaching France, he must abandon every vow he’s ever made or lose Cytharea to the abusive ambitions of a madman.

Acre, The Holy Land, 1191

In the hot, stinking dust of a desert night, Raymond du Sable crept closer to his goal across sands soaked with the blood of battle. Over four hundred men had died today, Saracens and Christians both.

But tonight, Richard of England and the infidel Saladin exchanged gifts of courtesy. Chilled fruits served on crushed ice, transported hundreds of miles from the mountains of Mongolia, delicate embroidery and lace carried all the way from Britain. The sheer wealth required to bring such items this far staggered Raymond.

But that was all right — he would have such riches soon enough.

He grinned in the darkness, thinking of the monarchs in Richard’s pavilion. Bent over a game of chess perhaps, or enjoying the wailing of zurnas that the Turks considered music. They played at chivalry while Christians bled and died to reclaim the Holy Land from the godless Turks.

Fools, the lot of them.

He himself had no interest in the Crusade or its goals. He had accompanied his cousin on this fool’s mission for one reason and one reason only. And that reason lay just ahead in a heavily guarded tent within Saladin’s encampment.

Only fools and infidels would bring their women to war.

No doubt his cousin Philip was with the others in Richard’s pavilion, chafing likely as not at the intricate shows of royal politeness. A vain, pious, unimaginative man, Philip, just thick-skulled enough to be dangerous.

Did such a man deserve to hold the throne of France?

Raymond thought not. Thrones and crowns belonged to those with the strength — and imagination — to take them. He grinned again, keeping his lips closed so that the flash of his teeth in the dark wouldn’t betray him.

There were two guards along each side of the large tent, with two additional men stationed at the entrance. Raymond had no intention of gaining admittance through the front flap. No, his quarry was here, housed toward the back of the large, opulent tent that housed Saladin’s hareem — a fact he had paid a pretty penny to learn.

But it was worth it. It all would be worth it.

He had discarded his armor in favor of stealth and speed, yet despite its absence he felt invulnerable, almost divinely protected. The first guard fell easily to his knife and the small, secretive, almost sexual excitement he always experienced while doing murder sang along his veins. It was so different from the crudity of killing in battle — there was no finesse in that, no private thrill. As the second guard started to turn, Raymond slipped behind him and slashed his throat.

Blood spurted across the sand, black in the gibbous moonlight, and Raymond stared at it a moment, picturing it as a sacrificial offering to whatever gods there were. Truly, he could almost believe in the old gods tonight. There was a tension in the air, a sense of fate, of destiny…

Cytharea. Her name whispered in Raymond’s mind with all the potency of legend. Quickly he slashed a gap in the side of the tent and slipped through it, finding himself in a small, enclosed space.

Cushions were scattered about the floor, and a single brass lamp dangled from a chain overhead. By its soft amber light, he could see the girl cowering back against the silken blue stuff that made up the far wall. Her dark hair tumbled down, obscuring her features. The thin fabric of her raiment barely concealed her body. Crossing quickly to her, Raymond seized her hair and pressed his knife to her throat.

What if she wasn’t the one? What if the legends were no more than fables, fancies spun of air and idleness? Well, at worst he could slit the girl’s throat and be gone as silently as he had come, he supposed, and find some other means by which to wrest the crown from Philip.

Then the girl lifted her head, staring up at him, and Raymond froze, licking his lips. His heart thudded heavily in his chest and a hot, painful yearning unfolded in his loins.

If we can alter the structure of reality, should we?

Caro Soames-Watkins, a talented neurosurgeon whose career has been upended by controversy, is jobless, broke, and the sole supporter of her sister, a single mother with a severely disabled child.

When she receives a strange job offer from Nobel Prize-winning scientist Sam Watkins, a great uncle she barely knows, desperation forces her to take it in spite of serious suspicions.

Watkins has built a mysterious medical facility in the Caribbean to conduct research into the nature of consciousness, reality, and life after death. Helped in his mission by his old friend, eminent physicist George Weigert, and young tech entrepreneur Julian Dey, Sam has gone far beyond curing the body to develop a technology that could solve the riddle of mortality.

Two obstacles stand in their way: someone on the inside is leaking intel and Watkins’ failing body must last long enough for the technology to be ready.

As danger mounts, Caro finds more than she bargained for, including murder, love, and a deeper understanding into the nature of reality.

A mind-expanding journey to the very edges of science, Observer will thrill you, inspire you, and lead you to think about life and the power of the imagination in startling new ways.

About the Authors

Robert Lanza, M.D.

Named one of TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People,” Robert Lanza is a renowned scientist and author whose groundbreaking research spans many fields, from biology to theoretical physics. He has worked with some of the greatest minds of our time, including Jonas Salk and B.F. Skinner. A U.S. News and World Report cover story called him “the living embodiment of the character played by Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting” and described him as a “genius,” a “renegade thinker,” and likened him to Einstein. He has been pondering the larger existential questions since he was a young boy, when for play he took excursions deep into the forests of eastern Massachusetts observing nature (like Emerson and Thoreau, who grew up just a few miles from him).  This fascination with the nature of life infused his entire career, leading him to the very frontiers of biology and science.

Romance may not be all that awakens while two best friends renovate a mansion rumored to be haunted.

If you kiss your best friend…

Halloween-loving Ren needs a new job. The only problem? The sole accountant opening in her small town requires construction experience, which are skills she lacks. Luckily, her best friend Leo— sexy, grumpy and completely off limits— is a construction hotshot. Their relationship is perfect as is, and, despite the intense chemistry, Ren refuses to ruin it with romance. Leo agrees to teach her, with one condition— she must live on site with him… and somehow survive the temptation.

You’ d better be sure…

Skeptic, sword-swinging Leo has loved Ren since she mistook him for a hardware employee in the plunger section two years ago. While he took his time winning her trust, she caged him in the friend zone. He’ s done hiding his feelings, and living together— working, sleeping, playing— at the Gothic mansion he’ s renovating will convince her that best friends make the best lovers.

It’ s meant to be forever.

Ren resolves to resist Leo, even if he bends every rule. Discovering the mansion’ s secrets— and lingering spirits, no matter what Leo claims— offers distraction enough. But with her defenses splintering, one kiss is all it takes to shatter every boundary, one night of passion to believe in happily ever after… and one crumbling letter of unrequited love to awaken ghosts forgotten. If Ren and Leo can’ t piece together the past for two lost souls, they might lose more than their hearts.

About the Author

Once upon a time, a girl with flat hobbit feet dreamed of adventures in the woods with an elven hero, fighting off orcs and saving magical rings. All grown up now, C.J. Burright resides in Oregon (at least she got the trees). While she faces her duties at the law office day job, she avoids writing legal thrillers and instead turns toward romance—contemporary (sometimes with a supernatural flair), paranormal or fantasy. With a 5th Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, it’s no surprise she prefers feisty heroines who aren’t afraid to jump into the fight. Her slivers of spare time are spent working out, gardening, playing the latest Assassin’s Creed, and rooting on the Seattle Mariners, always with music. She shares a house with her husband (not elven, alas, but a fine alternative) and a devoted cat herd while missing her daughter from afar. C. A month has passed since fourteen-year-old Charlee Smelton discovered her magical abilities and faced her great aunt, Theodora, in a life or death struggle to protect Earth. A month has passed since she tricked Theodora back across the dimensional gateway that brought Theodora to Earth. Since then, Charlee—now fully aware that she is part of a noble bloodline from another world…another dimension…has grown stronger in her magic, aided by her protector, a shapeshifter sent to Earth to protect her.

But the terrible dreams won’t stop.

Theodora lives, and if Charlee’s dreams of death and fields of spilled blood are true, her great aunt has avenged herself on that world across the dimensional divide.

Charlee knows what she must do. The fight is not over. She must travel across the gateway to the home of her ancestors and face Theodora one more time. But doing so may cost Charlee more than her life. The same medallion her great aunt desires so much—a medallion Charlee possesses—could make her just as evil as her great aunt.

Can Charlee stave off the twisted tendrils of the medallion long enough to defeat Theodora—for good—or will evil consume her? Can she even survive so far from home? Her only hope may rest in the Lord of the Dragons, but that beast turned his back on her grandfather long ago…

Guardian’s Nightmare

The Last Princess of Latara Book 1

Charlee Smelton is an average thirteen-year-old girl struggling to adapt after her family moves to San Francisco. She thinks her biggest obstacle is facing the bullies who brand her a nerd and a dweeb. She’s wrong. Her life is about to change—for the worse.

First, she receives a gift of the ugliest, most old fashioned bike she has ever seen. Try as she might to ditch it in the city, she just can’t seem to escape that very mysterious two-wheeler. Then come the visions of a world across a dimensional divide, a princess in fear for her life and a dark knight pursuing her. Are they just dreams or something more?

For Charlee, everything she ever thought she knew about herself soon crumbles as she starts down a path to discover her true self, and she will need that hunk-of-junk bike more than she could ever imagine. Without it, she might not be able to find the hero in herself—the hero she must become to save her friends, family, her city—the world—from an evil only she can defeat. An evil she allows into this world.

Like many writers, my journey to become an author began with a love of reading, and I have my grandmother to thank for that. When I was eight or nine, she gave me a paper bag filled with comic books from the 1960s and ’70s. Comics became a big part of my life. I would save my weekly allowance to buy the most recent editions of Batman and Superman. Then, growing up in the ’80s, I began to read Choose Your Own Adventure books from the world of Dungeons & Dragons. And that led me to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. But my path to become a writer was firmly set after I saw the movie Ghostbusters in 1984, just prior to my freshman year of high school. I was in awe the way the writers came up with words that made people laugh so hard, and I knew right then I wanted to write. I immediately went home and wrote my version of Ghostbusters II. More importantly, I took journalism in high school, and continued to study journalism in college. After a wonderful career as a newspaper journalist, and a secondary career as a college English professor, it was time to rekindle my love for fiction. I knew I wanted to write fantasy, like Tolkien, and I wanted to write for middle grade and young adult readers to inspire them the way I was inspired by the books I read. I hope young readers–and even older ones–enjoy my work. Thank you for checking out my author page, and keep reading, no matter what you love to read.
