End of Week 3 for #AtoZchallenge2015

A to Z Challenge [Letter Schedule] [2015]
As the third week ends, I had my big OOOPS! with posting two letters on the 16th, but just skipped the 17th and forged on.
I have discovered some wonderful blogs and I hope to keep in touch with some of the bloggers I have connected with.
My favorite thing is when the same word/theme is chosen by several blogs I visit but presented in such different ways, confirming that we all have such different voices when we write and perspectives of what we see.
Thanks for all the visits and comments…..

P is for Peter

P (2)

Pope-peter pprubens.jpg

I was raised Catholic in the Catholic Church ST PETER is the patron saint of fishermen.  Peter I am sure we all know means stone. As a child I came up with variants of the name Pedro for my dolls, all my babies had the name Peter, which is funny in that I had no relatives by said name and I was not allowed to watch much TV so it was not influenced by Fred Flintstone who in dubbed Spanish cartoons was PEDRO PICAPIEDRA ( Peter the stone crusher) .

O is for Ophelia

O (2)

OFELIA or OPHELIA such a lovely name. there is something so  feminine  according to some of the sites I have used for name meanings Ophelia means help. but  BEHIND A NAME Meaning & History . OPHELIA is derived from Greek οφελος (ophelos) meaning “help”. This name was probably created by the 15th-century poet Jacopo Sannazaro for a character in his poem ‘Arcadia’. It was borrowed by Shakespeare for his play ‘Hamlet’ (1600), in which it belongs to Hamlet‘s lover who eventually goes insane and drowns herself. In spite of this, the name has been used since the 19th century.

Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet

N is for Narcissus

N (2)

Narcissus is a beautiful youth in Greek mythology who pines away for love of his own reflection and is then turned into the narcissus flower . From which we all get narcissism and our tendencies to be most vain!  I believe we all have it maybe not about our looks, but surely everyone has that one thing… cooking? Writing? Athletic Prowess…something that makes us feel so special we may well call it vanity.

M is for MARIA

M (2)

As you may  know my name is MARIA CATALINA  and I love both , I usually go  by my middle name but Maria is one I love as well.

Do you like your given name? If not would you change it?

MARIA The meaning of the Semitic-rooted name is uncertain, but it may originally be an Egyptian name, probably derived from mry “beloved” or mr “love” (“eminent lady” or “beloved lady”). The meaning of the Latin-rooted name is similarly ambiguous, possibly deriving from mare (“sea” in Latin), maris (“male”), or the name of the god Mars.

Lucas means Light .Use it as Luke, or Luka. I find that light is often the meaning of names I like. in Spanish the word for light is LUZ and it is a popular name for women.

I is for IRVING… as in IRVING Stone and John IRVING

I (2)

From SHE KNOWS Added with fun numerology as one of my guests pointed that that is how she chooses the names of her characters. I chose IRVING because of two writers I really like, one has Irving as a First name and another as his last name.

Who through his historical novels made me fall in love with Van Gogh and cook like Michael Angelo’s step mother , embrace the love story between Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd and ponder on Darwin’s mind.

I think like most I discovered him through GARP but I soon got all his other novels and continued to buy others. His most recent don’t speak to me as the earlier works did and to date one of my favorite opening lines has to be from The Water Method Man;

“Her gynecologist recommended him to me. Ironic: the best urologist in New York is French…”

with the patient anxiously biting a plastic boob.. the book just continues to get better as the protagonist tries to grow up and find himself…. brilliant novel .
