I love my given name CATALINA , I was christened Maria Catalina and I love the names on their own or combined. CATALINA means PURE. Maria can mean bitter or bitter sea and I am a very happy go lucky person, perhaps that is why when I write I often create characters whose names have meanings that are the very opposite of their personality.
When I was researching THE BRIDGE OF DEATHS the name CATALINA was very helpful to me. The book revolves around a real 1939 plane crash and I had to visit archives and museums related to aviation. The aviation archivists and curators who were so kind to help me often asked; “Were you named after the Seaplane?” Sometimes they introduced me as the woman named after a sort of aircraft.

My name was my paternal grandmother’s and had absolutely nothing to do with the seaplane, but I certainly thank my lucky stars that it opened doors for me when I needed it.
What does your name mean? Is it you or the opposite of you? There are many name sites I like to use this one
Catalina is a pretty name. 🙂 What a coincidence that it’s the same as the seaplane and you were writing about a plane that crashed into the sea. Life is sure weird sometimes.

My book and research is actually about a LOCKHEED ELECTRA 10A like Amelia Earhart’s but Archivists and museum curators identified my name with the seaplane… might need to revise post! Thanks for dropping by.

That was awesome! your name did open doors for you. My name kindda does that to me too since its considered a pretty name, once people hear it they smile and others start singing, men can flirt too so. I wrote a whole post about my name and my life with it in 2014 A2Z challenge under the letter H, funny it’s such a popular post, but it suites me so (Haneen is Arabic and means: yearning, and the pain that comes from a strong feeling of missing someone or somewhere.). I like the sound of your name, I don’t know if it has anything to do with but it reminds me of Catalonia i.e. FC Barcelona and I’m a big fan 🙂

What a powerful name you have. I find the Arabic culture fascinating and the food sublime. I have only visited Morocco and that for a one day stint in Tangiers, but through school had many friends from a wide variety of cultures and that included many Arabic countries. Thanks for dropping by off to see you.
